I was lucky enough to stumble across Mark Minasi's Mastering Windows NT Server 4 book several years ago and have been a huge fan even since. The new Mastering Windows Server 2003 book caries along the great tradition of Mark's previous editions. I almost feel as though he as talking to me personally at times. Mark's books have been the single greatest learning resource in my I.T. career and have empowered me beyond my wildest dreams.

The folks out there saying this is a rehash haven't taken the time to thoroughly read the book. There is a ton of great information on 2003. A lot is similar to the 2000 book simply because 2003 isn't a great departure from 2000. Get this book and find out for yourself. I am the senior network engineer for a fortune 500 company and it this book stays open on my desk at all times. Thanks Mark!

If you're in IT, you've shelled out more than a few dollars on manuals... and know that many aren't worth the investment. I researched the Windows 2003 documentation issue carefully before getting this manual, and it is by far the most comprehensive guide on the subject I've seen to date.

Contrary to the opinions of the handful of distractors posting here, this book is concise, and the sections CAN EASILY be used on a stand alone basis. To wit, I first opened the book to the topics I was interested in, had my web sites up in 5 minutes (and picked up some VERY useful info about the limitations of Host Headers), and remote desktop administration configured and up in under 1 minute... and now I've decided to go back and read the introduction, lol. I am unaware of any other manual on the subject that makes things so simple, or covers in detail so many features of the software.

This book is worth every penny. Thanks Mark!

I have Minasi's Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 Mastering books. I would recommend Mastering Windows 2003 to most but I would also recommend Windows Server 2003 Inside Out. Having both books is a Godsend. Windows Server 2003 Inside Out has become my goto book for the indepth stuff especially monitoring, maintenance, Active Directory, networking, printing. Inside Out has the best coverage of DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP. Mastering is still my goto book when I have to deal with Mac to Windows support or Unix to Windows issues or NetWare to Windows. Mastering is good for issues with older OSs like connectivity to Windows for Workgroup clients.
