Part II begins with references to good, practical examples of how you can extend the Eclipse environment. It builds excitement about the product and the book through its step-by-step explanations of how to build your own extensions. There are even more examples on the CD-ROM to investigate as you have time. I particularly liked how Part II is divided into different sections, "Fundamentals", "Advanced", and "Special Interests". Once you've read the first section, you can skip around and read chapters in just about any order, depending on your intersts.
Finally, Part III has a series of structured exercises. These help a user at any level extend his knowledge as much as he would like by digging deeper into coding. Overall, it's a very worthwhile addition to the book and might even make the book suitable for use in an undergraduate course.
After reading this book -- I'm ready to go start building my own Eclipse plugins!
