I am fairly new to Exchange and was encouraged to buy this book by it's title and reviews. I wish I had followed the advice of a few other frustrated readers here and not purchased this book. I'm not sure what to do with this book. It is unclear, poorly written and just laid out wrong. The book is a "beginners guide" right? Why does it start out with "Part 1: Migration and Coexistence?" How about an introduction to Exchange? You wont find that here. The first 3 chapters discuss upgrading to Exchange 2000 from 5.5 and coexistence with other mail servers. If I had experience with 5.5 and had issues with other mail servers I probably wouldn't need to purchase a book called "A Beginners Guide". So I skipped ahead to chapter 4: "Installing Exchange 2000 Server." This chapter was unclear and incomplete. The book is constantly referencing back to Exchange 5.5 and assumes that you are much more than a beginner with Exchange. I would appreciate this book if it was a little over my head but served as a good reference but it is not a good book for experienced Admins either, it's a mess. I'm annoyed with this book, it was a waist of money!
Don't buy this book if you are a beginner to Exchange!
Not very simple!
Rating: 2/5
Great Book for domains with child domains but for simple starters it is not what I thought it would be. Limited detail in the migration and even more limited in basic tasks. The book is good just not for starters. I recommend something else.
Bravo!

I was relieved after I read this book. I had read a book called "Exchange 2000" by Gerber which I could not get to work properly and left me very frustrated. I needed to understand Exchange server in a hurry to prepare for interviews. I had no prior knowledge of Exchange. This book was beautifully written. A masterpiece! Simple to understand for a beginner. I would say its the best possible starting point as a beginner and by the time you're done you'll have a good solid understanding of just about everything in Exchange server.
