I am almost done reading "Haunted America". What I most appreciate was the extensive researches both the authors have done regarding this book.

The stories are engrossing and when you go to the last pages, you can find a bibliography in which you can find all the sites, pieces of journals, références, etc, about the researches done concerning the hauntings.

And, for me, this book was also very educational regarding the History of various places in U.S and Canada.

Yes, I read it at night and, not being particularly scared usually, I must admit I did 'Jumped' at times when hearing noises in the house. :)

I also like the fact that this book contains over 500 pages and deliver the reader with hours of enjoyement.

This book has 1 or 2 true ghost stories from all 50 states in the U.S. The stories are not too long and they are very entertaining and enjoyable. I can remember back in 88' the Wisconsin story on the Unsolved Mysteries show about a family's house that was haunted by vengeful demons. I would highly recommend this book.

Haunted America provides the reader with tales of the supernatural from each state and Canada. This is not a bad idea. The problem is that some of the stories are just too well known to really hold the reader's attention -- such as the Jersey Devil, the White House hauntings, and the ghostly happenings on board the Queen Mary. For example, instead of focusing on the Jersey Devil, the authors could have given an account of the ghosts that supposedly haunt the Spy House Museum in New Jersey. Focusing on well known tales of the supernatural detracts from this book -- especially when there are other, more interesting stories to chose from.

That being said, there are times when the authors actually feature a lesser known account. When this happens, the book really works -- to the delight of the reader. For example, some of the more interesting stories include tales about the Marfa Lights in Texas or the family that was tormented by a poltergiest in 1958 ("Ordinary People. . . "). These stories are not as widely known as the Jersey Devil. Consequently, the readers stay interested and focused.
