I purchased this book about 7 months ago and have read it at least 7 times. It is a touching epic story that encompasses all human emotions. It is one of those novels that gets better and better after each read and you tend to establish your favorite parts. One of mine being the scene where Elizabeth is trying to enlist the reluctant participation of Darcy in conversation concerning the lack of connubial bliss of Jane and Bingley (page 122). It is hilarious and so based on reality of what a married couple would be discussing in the privacy of their bedroom. The book is chockful of touching scenes. A wonderful read.
If this book was published in the same time era as Jane Austen, Linda Berdoll would probably be hanged and quartered for its blatant sexual overtones but in our 20th century I applaud her in giving depth to the P&P characters not only sexually but in all ways human, making Elizabeth and Darcy especially endearing. I can hardly wait to curl up and enjoy it again!!

If you loved Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and you have longed for a continuation, I can't imagine any sequel being a better tribute. HOWEVER -- reader beware, if you dislike details about the marriage bed, caution is advised. I am a Christian, and I do not read romance novels, nor do I seek books that have explicit sexual content. YET, because this book was written in the exact style of Jane Austen, and the sexual portions were described -- delicately -- so to speak, I found this book overall to be one of the best non-fiction books I have ever read. I was not offended by the marriage-bed accounts as it glorified marriage and not out of wedlock relations... I DIDN'T WANT IT TO END and yet I couldn't put it down! I think despite the sometimes "raw" content, it should not offend Christians, nor non-Christians. Despite the horrible editing of this book, it is an excellant tribute to the writing style (emphasis is on style as no author could be Jane Austen) of Jane Austen and the continuation of our favorite characters left me spellbound! BUY IT TODAY!

Let me first just say that like most of these reviewers, I am a true Jane Austen lover. So naturally, I was eager to find a sequel to my favorite of her books, Pride and Prejudice. If what you are looking for is a clone of the original, then look elsewhere. Though a formidable attempt at Austen's era of writing, Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife is palpably seen as written by a modern writer. The intimate scenes are downright raunchy, and it wouldn't be an exageration to call the book a trashy romance novel disguised in Jane Austen's toungue. The melodrama rivals that of a daytime soap, aptly equipt with beautiful people and tears galore. Our favorite of Austen's protagonists, lovely Elizabeth, loses much of her wit and admirable strong will. Mr. Collins lacks his famed infatuation with Lady Catherine De Bourgh. Characters are kicked around in the mud, and Austen's light-hearted, witty perspective on high society is utterly demolished.
That said, I still didn't think that it wasn't worth the read. If what you seek is a deliciously written novel that will virtually read itself, then look no further. Lydia and Wickham prove to be amply colorful characters. Mr. Darcy is more a stud than ever before (as partially conveyed with his virility time and time again) and it is not difficult to feel yourself lost in the fantasy of Pemberly like lucky Lizzy Bennet. All loose ends are tied, and many characters are broadened. The story brings a delightfully (though somewhat predictable) happy ending with a few curve balls. However, harsh critics beware: this is no pulizter prize winner.
