I am an avid fan of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series and could not wait to dive into The Fiery Cross and revisit with Jamie and Claire. Unfortunately, this book was a huge disappointment. Roger and Brianna take a fair chunk of the novel, Roger's story is interesting but I can't say that I'm able to warm up to the short tempered and often self centered Brianna. Is there any more to her character or personality than her temper? I don't feel a real sense of personality from her. Her character spends so much time in a fit over one thing or another and even Roger often appears to be afraid of her.

Brianna's leaking breasts and the state of Jemmy's diapers are described ad nausem in this book. We get it already, her breasts leak. What was the author thinking? I realize this is realistic for a nursing mother but is it necessary for the reader to read about it in detail quite so much? How does it move the story forward or advance the plot in any way? Or even contribute to her character? The book in general? I think the author could have shaved about 200 pages out of this book by getting rid of the worthless, repetitive descriptions.

I hope the next one is better but I'm sorry to say that this one is very slow moving and frankly, boring.

I just have to say for those who are giving this book less than 4 or 5 stars, are you a true DG fan? Any of her books are more than worthy of 5 stars. I'd give them all a 6 if I could. The continuing story of Jamie and Claire is what I wait for. If you want them to go back to Scotland and back to Lallybroch, then read Outlander, DIA & Voyager over again. These books are meant to be continuous and move on with their lives. Remember, it is fiction and things will be a little unbelievable, I mean, ahem, it is a time travel novel, no? She has every intention of making these characters more than fantastic. Take the fiction at face value, rather than trying to make it reality. Enjoy them for the wonderful works of fiction they are.

I am a huge Diana Gabaldon fan (loved every book in the Outlander series except this one). This book was very hard to get through. I bought it in hardcover and have picked it up several times but can't get past 200 pages. Will someone please tell me what happens in the end of this book? I want to read the next one in the series (whenever that comes out) and I want to know what I missed in The Fiery Cross.
