A Question of Society

Postby Manwithbeard on Sat Feb 21, 2009 11:42 pm

For those of you who don't know me. (That should eb just about everyone...unless YOUR that stalker who drank my milk. I expect a new carton by the way!!!) I tend to think, write somewhat coherent rants, and in doing so i try to encourage thinking rather than agreement or disagreement. If anything i post is wrong, go ahead and say so, but please don't ruin it for all.

Society. The thing most of us blame for the way the world is today. Some definitions of society are:

1. an organized group of persons associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes.
2. a body of individuals living as members of a community; community.
3. the body of human beings generally, associated or viewed as members of a community: the evolution of human society.
4. a highly structured system of human organization for large-scale community living that normally furnishes protection, continuity, security, and a national identity for its members: American society.
5. such a system characterized by its dominant economic class or form: middle-class society; industrial society.
6. those with whom one has companionship.
7. companionship; company: to enjoy one's society.
8. the social life of wealthy, prominent, or fashionable persons.
9. the social class that comprises such persons.
10. the condition of those living in companionship with others, or in a community, rather than in isolation.
11. Biology. a closely integrated group of social organisms of the same species exhibiting division of labor.

The long list had probably caused your attention to wander, but for those of you sticking around, well, thanks. :D

But what is it really? I can tell you right now i don't know for certain, and I doubt that many people can describe it right off the bat and have that description matched by any single person. Society, for me at least, has ceased to exist. We no longer have a body of individuals working together for the common anything that can't be called idealism in some fashion. The so called realists of this world have in fact corrupted society, the greedy were already working on it, and all it took was for a few people to stop seeing others to finish off the work of those who came before us. In luei(sp?) of this, I'm questioning whether or not Society exists anymore. High society definatley exists, but can we really call a rich lifestyle society? No. Not in my opinion. Scratch off one definition of society right there. The others however, I can't, and will not disprove for now, simply because at this time i can't and realy dont feel like it. I guess the Question is, Does society exist? And the answer is an opinion. And if Soiciety does not truly exist as it did, who or what could be responsible for the world as it is today?

Something to think about, Could human inginuety(I know for certain i've flubbed this one up) be responsible for the decline in humanity as a whole?

It could be that in trying to manage the world we've steered ourselves towards this end.

Anyone here know a world history major or is a history major?

I apologise dearly for the stolen milk and will send a new carton when possible. Stolen milk is in essence where society has failed....

will mysti send me milk also?

I think you first have to decide what society means to you. If you think society is having a sense of community (as I do), I think that one is responsible for finding it. There are such places where there is a sense of community (here being the first place I found it*). One would also have to decide whether they want to forgive human nature because if one is a cynic then it will be impossible for them to find their own society.

*Many people say the computer is a very impersonal thing however if you are a cynic it is easier to find a society there. On the computer, you decide which type of people you talk to, you can hide your flaws as everyone else can hide theirs. Also there is a lack of embarrassment therefore you have a place to ask about problems that may embarrass you in any other place

Wisdom-ness-ness.

An interesting concept there, because that poses a question of just how a non cynic can find their community if they are unable to travel....and then e get into the whole "Does life have a purpose?" discussion as a byway of saying nobody knows, and the best we have are ideas and such which, are amazing.

that was quite a lot in a little space

I think for many of the deep questions ideas are all we have as you say. This means that you can choose the idea which fits your beliefs, lifestyle, or morals best

The ability to choose is probably the only thing that makes us differ from animals.

I believe i have come to a realization.(sp?)

The only beautifull thing about humanity is the complexity of it.

hmmm are we talking about society? or Milk? or Milking the society? If it's the later, I think it will work better if society is a herd of cow.... much better than a group of kangaroos that jump randomly to everywhere.... Yes, indeed, I think our society is a group of cow... driven by the mighty cowperd. We follow other cows, while other cows think they are following us.... If you look closely, even when we are giving the choice to choose, we often forfeit it for a false sense of security..... I think that's what Nietzsche thought about our modern society (before he became mad and thought himself was a cow)

Mysti is now the Milkmaster, master of Milk.

Very good point, Americas doing the same. We trade in all our rights for a false sense of security and as we vote away those rights the government cowperd laughs at our bovinity.

I would also like some milk :hi:

I'm sure society still exists, by my definition at least. Society = people socialising, and for sure we haven't stopped doing that. Every day i see people talking to each other, arranging to go and do things with other people, and share their expereince of life. Without it, the world is very empty, and very monotonous (without other people's ideas we tend to get very single minded and ignorant, even if we are right).

I try to socialise with a variety of people, even though I'm not very good at it in the conventional sense.

Ingenuity is how you spell it btw.

I agree that there is a lot of society on the internet... Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't noticed Facebook, and so must (luckily?) have their head buried in the sand.

Some of the best expereinces of society are given by being kind... The thrill of helping someone random carry a heavy case just because you know you can, or painting someone's house for them.

You spelled realization right for American English. In the UK it would be realisation.

As for milking the society, we do behave a lot like cows... I try to be a lanky cow however, so I can see other members of the herd faling down chasms, and adjust my position in he herd accordingly. Of course one herd is a simplification... in some areas I'm like a lone free cow ranger, such as fashion sense. In others, I'm a member of a billionstrong herd.

Here is your milk, but remember this is a one-time offer especially for you as you cannot die and I cannot be delivering milk to an undying hatter, no matter how inspired he may be.
