LONDON - British authorities said Thursday they thwarted a terrorist plot to simultaneously blow up 10 aircraft heading to the U.S. using explosives smuggled in hand luggage, averting what police described as “mass murder on an unimaginable scale.”

Five years after the so called "War on Terror", is the "Terror" being defeated or is the "Terror" growing stronger? Is there an end to this war? Or would we perpetually live in a perpetual state of terror whether they are thwarted or executed?

maybe not a perpetual state of terror but probably a perpetual state of war

I mean "terrorists" have existed forever and will continue to exist
they've just changed the name for them every so often so people don't get sick of it

barbarians
gals
communists
and many more names
I think it's just plain stupid
why can't we just all get along
after all this is a large world and we have plenty of space to live in peace

Because people only want to get along with people who think, act and believe in the same things they do. They're afraid/ignorant of other cultures and so they try impose themselves on others. This goes for terrorists and governments. Until people learn that other people have a right to their own beliefs, it'll be awful hard to have peace.

I think people used to be very nice in the good old days of 90s, for both religious and non religious, and most government were open and moderate... A few terrorists, but they seldom took over the headlines like they did today.

Back then different cultures mixed pretty well, countries were nice to each other, we had been progressing towards a pretty peaceful world, boring but peaceful...

but whenever you have a state of peace, it's always bound to get boring after a while. terrorists don't appreciete calmness. they like things that go boom. they remind me of toddlers in that respect.

Hate to say it but there is only one way we will ever defeat these terrorists and we will refuse to do it until our backs are completely against the wall, because it goes completely against the grain of our Western standards of political correctness.

Point a powerful missile right at the Kabbah of Mecca. Announce that the very next act of Islamofascist terrorism in the world will cause the launch of that missile, with a good two hour's warning or so to any civilians who might be in that location, so that they may prudently remove themselves.

Call their bluff. Either they are true Islamists as they claim to be and will yield in order to save that religious treasure; or they have hijacked the religion and will have to admit it and lose their falsified credentials. It will

It sounds horrible. But so does living with terrorists all over our planet only growing bolder every day.

I've thought of that, but they can easily retaliate. We have treasures too. :(

It's dangerous to generalise all terrorists as ascribing to one particular group. Threatening to wipe out a religious centre wont stop terrorism, but it will give them an excuse. Any time in the future they are asked why they do it - They threatened our religious capitol.
