New Napster campaign too explicit?

Postby bowler on Wed Sep 13, 2006 8:13 pm

It certainly feels like this new Napster is more adult - especially when I have fond memories of using Napster as a child downloading "Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back" when Napster was first created.

Now look at the new ad they're using to get customers: http://www.napstergirl.com

Definately hot, but wow what a turn around for an MP3 service.

I think that was completely unnecessary... Sure, sex sells, but it's cheap and desperate, and will probably turn off most female users. My advertising degree taught me only to use sex when it was really relevant or clever... Not blatant and in your face. Then again, it just goes to show the internet is for the most part a giant porn magazine...

I suppose they're not so worried about the younger people who use the internet either.

That being said, it was a hot ad. I just think it could've been classier and a bit more appropriate.

I sounds a bit naive to think kids can't find this kind of stuff. I was probably in the 6th or so grade when I first used Napster.

Sure, there are probably worse things kids can come across online, im just saying it's kinda crazy what some legitimate companies will do to get their advertisement noticed out of a crowd.
