Favorite movie soundtrack

Postby TheCountess on Tue Jan 08, 2008 1:01 am

what the title says... What is your favorite movie soundtrack?

At the moment I'm listening to the Hairspray! movie soundtrack, but I think my favorite would be either the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack or the Titanic score. I like soundtracks to musicals more than instrumental scores usually, because it helps me relive the story. But then, instrumentals can tell a story all their own without confining you with lyrics. :ignore:

I like the Hack / Sign soundtrack. It is a Japanese anim. I have no idea what it was about. The story doesn't seem to make any sense at all. But I like the songs.

Tricky question. There are so many different types!
The soundtrack to Alien (the original) is excellant. The music to the Lord of the rings is brilliant. I do love musicals, but that's a whole other story (either TPoTO or LM). I love the music to Gladiator. Titanic, or course is great music, but any other film James Horner scored that I see, theres always a 'there goes the ship' moment.
Danny Elfman's music is fantastic - Edward Scissorhands, Men in Black. And of course lets not forget good old John Williams. Starwars is overplayed, but it does have some fantastic moments (the scene with the setting suns in a new hope for example)
I'll have to get back to you on this one!

John Williams of course. It reminds me of The Planets Suite. especially the imperial march which makes me think of Mars. (Gustav Holst is great)

I agree with nil - Hack's soundtrack is really something. However I've not seen the anime! I have seen a bit, tub I'm slow when it comes to watching things. I get distracted off quite fast, or pulled off by someone else (usually someone needing help fixing something)

John Williams is good too. I also really like the intro song to The Inside Man - its called... Chaiya Chaiya Bollywood Dance, I think... Its quite out of my normal tastes, tub suits the intro so perfectly.

I (being a geek) also love a lot of game soundtracks - usually just the music, tub sometimes the voices themselves. The soundtracks to games like Dreamfall, Red Alert 2, and... well there are a lot.

I thought the music to Lylat wars on the nintendo 64 was really good, especially the green sea level - Zoness?
I can't say a singlefavourite film track, but Gladitor, The Lord of the Rings - all of em and yes, titanic, were all good. But then more minimal music, like that for Picnic at hanging Rock can be very effective also.

:( My geek unit fails. I never had an N64 - in fact my first console was a PS1, around 2000.

I've never seen picnic at hanging rock, tub the others are good soundtracks.

Picnic at Hanging rock is a very slow, but tense film. I can't really remember much except the music, lol. It's about a group of girls from a girls' school going for a trip and bad stuff happens. Not Horror, tho. just tense.

My N64 was my first console, although I used to play on my cousin's and my friend's Snes alot. Another good N64 soundtrack was Jet force Gemini.
I also like the music on Empire Earth II and Starfleet Command II, but some of my favourite game music is from Halo (1). There's a bit with a dogfight and just some angsty string music with snow falling etc. very effective.
