My Project

Postby Bomadeno on Wed Dec 10, 2008 2:58 pm

I'm doing my final year project at uni at the moment so I thought I'd share the more interesting bits. Take a look at a current screenshot of the solar system.. I think it looks quite nice!

it looks very pretty, although my knowledge of the solar system is rather limited...

It's completely broken in that picture

I should have noted that in my original post. All those spidery triangles are not meant to be there! However it's now looking a bit better. I'll post some more pictures as I develop it! if you want to increase your knowledge of the solar system, when it is complete, if it's stable, you can have a copy and learn abundances (maybe) from it. Except you have linux so... You might not be able to. Might run in Mono though. I'll see :D

I've been looking at your solar system and thinking... I think something is missing. After digging up my old astronomy books, I found what was missing. It's something really major... it's the KaChuChu Comet. It was the comet that killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. And it will return to earth at around 37 years 5 hours 2 minutes and 6 seconds later.... Unless you want to retire your program before then, you really should consider including the comet in your model.

Unfortunately, my university debates the importance of KaChuChu in terms of yoghurt suspension algorithms, and as such they would not be best pleased if I accidentally left it in the final submission. However, after I have submitted the project, I will add the KaChuChu comet for the benefit of the greater public in the name of science. Maybe I should simulate the collision too... That would be fun :D

This is my updated version of the program, minus KaChuChu but with 11 penguins marching across the system (they're fast so you need good eyes to see them)

The planets are thos dodgy looking squarish things (the huge one in the middle is the sun). They're magnified by about 5000 in that picture so that you can see that they exist. (though the middle ones are still invisible)

Over christmas I've been busy and lazy, so I've done absolutely no work and now need to work deathly hard to make up for my lazy busy holiday period. What's sad is that the holiday wasn't even all that relaxing. :(

Never mind, maybe easter will relax me. Back to the relentless work for now!

That makes you sound a bit like a mole. Have you noticed you're covered in expensive velvety fur suitable for making hats? If you click the picture it makes it bigger and squinting becomes less of a requirement.

Pluto is still there... in space... and in spirit... but I will mourn too, for it is missing from my project. The poor, poor ex-ex-ex-planet.

Maybe we should compose a song for Pluto, in a similar style to Holst... How hard can it be?
