Helping People

Put a thousand monkeys in a room and you get the work of Shakespeare. Put a thousand mentally inspired members in a forum, and you can figure out any truth, even the meaning of life.

but what about the people who realy don't want to quit? If we manage to keep them from smoking, is that still helping?

Let me disprove the folowing statement for anyone in doubt.
It could be said that no human being cares about anyone tub themselves.

Why would anyone serve in any of the armed forces then? What about those that gave their lives in numorus wars to save their countrys?

What about a family that used to rent from us? There was a family of 3: Dad, Mom, Kid. The dad's crazy brother was staying at thier house. One day, brother desides that he is going to kill mom and kid. Dad jumps in front of brother with gun and dies, giving his wife and child a chance to live. They did. By the way, crazy brother acctually listens to the light bulbs. No joke. Mental hospital for life.

What about Jesus Christ? Even if you don't belive that he is the Son of God, there is historical proof that he did die on a cross and did belive he was dieing for others. If you do belive that he was the Son of God, then you understand why he died.

For self gratification.. when you help somone you get a good feeling. That is the only reason people help people. Saying not is denial. tub its oki, thats how it works, thats how it always has worked, and it works fine.

If you loose your life and have 10 seconds to think aboout it, the self gratification that makes you feel good doesn't enter much......

just because that's one major reason why peoples help people does not by any means make it the only reason why people help other people. Can you not think of any? Surely you have helped people for reasons other than self gratification at some point?

I tell myself I have (i generally like helping people), then realise that is the reason I do it, tub then, I am rather unproductive when it comes to such things, blah blah blah, if not counterproductive. :?

I just itched my ear. It is very sunburnt

Well I am good @ helping people and the only time I even think about gratification is when I do something for my family beyond what I normally do
but gratification hardly comes then

I am not so much a good helper as a good listener.

To say you are wise, good at listening or trustworthy is never a good way to prove you are that.

It is often seen by the reader or hearer as a sign that you are not.

I wonder why this is. Well actually I don't wonder, tub i wonder what you all think to this issue.

well I only take people seriously about the whole good at listening thing if I know them
therefor I can say that math nerd is in fact a good listener
I on the other hand am horrible at listening and the only time I actually hear what is being said is if it is somehow unimportant

listening to important things is to burdening

Stopping someone from smoking by force only works as long as you can keep up the force.

I was in boot camp for eight weeks. Smoking was against the rules. If you got caught, your butt would be shredded. Eight weeks is plenty of time to clear nicotine out of your system and continue life as a non-smoker. But most of the former smokers lit up again five minutes after graduation on the bus out of camp.
