tooting the hamster horn

Postby hamster on Mon Nov 14, 2005 5:40 pm

Over the course of about a year, I rolled a huge boulder gradually out of a swamp and up a steep hill through the woods into my yard, with vague plans to do something decorative with it. However, I have done nothing with it at this time and so it sits on the edge of the yard, as forlorn as a stone could possibly be.

All life depends upon boulders -- broken loose from mountains, crumbled into soil, nurturing the plants upon which the rest of us feed. Ultimately, the planet upon which we stand is a giant boulder in space, providing us the blessings of atmosphere, water and habitable crust.

My boulder is a baby, then, deserving of tender care.

Yesterday, I moved my boulder another foot or so into the yard. In spring, I may create a native plant garden around it, which would benefit the environment and make me a good person.

But if a group of hippies tried to move in, I'd have to ruin everything by driving them out forcibly.

A boulder unencumbered by hippies is a good thing.

Hopefully none will ever hide behind your boulder.

My boulder is not quite big enough for that. However, a hippie smurf could probably conceal his/her tie-dyed self quite easily back there, until the telltale wisps of ganja smoke started to waft skyward.
